Early Morning Thoughts in November

These little "Thanksgiving people" have sat on my shelf for many years. They were painted by me the first year I started painting. So they are probably about 35 yrs old. I made the little quilt that they are resting on too. Those were busy, busy years for me. I had started painting classes and I found that I enjoyed painting and doing crafts and the bug bit me. One thing led to another and before I knew it I was supplying three shops, selling out of my home, doing big and small craft shows, and doing a big home show, at my house in the fall. Those were fun but busy times. I was very organized.....I had to be. I could go on and on about my life back then, but today I'll just show you these little people. I have very few things that I painted back then....but these were the beginning and I'll always have them out at Thanksgiving time. They remind me to be thankful that this creativity happened at a time when we needed a second income.

I like to give the house a good cleaning before I decorate for Christmas. We leave our Christmas things up until after Epiphany....so that's a long time. The kitchen gets cleaned good too....with people helping in the kitchen, I like it to be tidy. So, the cleaning is just about done and now I can enjoy the holiday coming.

This morning we are going to the pool. I didn't really want to start swimming last year...thinking that during the winter I would be so cold after swimming...but we get out of the pool and sit in the lounge area until we warm up and have coffee. Joe starts the car from inside and we just make a dash to the car. I would really miss it now. My arthritis is so much better and this past gardening season found me outside with little pain. I have to say that I am starting to get tired more easily and just can't do what I used to do.

My annual appt. with the doctor was on Monday and everything looked pretty good. I only have one kidney, and the doctor said I had chronic kidney disease...that startled me for a bit, because I had never heard it told that way before. I was assured that nothing had changed...in fact my numbers are a little better than last year. I am supposed to drink lots of water.....I'm told this at every appt. and I am one who carries a bottle of water every where I go. I am faithful in doing this, because I hope to never have to go on dialysis. I guess when we get old....things start wearing out, but with only one kidney...I have to be careful. I feel lucky though....it could be worse. I know so many people who are so much worse off than I am. I am blessed.

The bird report for today: the suet feeders were busy early this morning. I enjoyed watching the big old blue jay trying to hang on the suet feeder. The chickadee was flitting back and forth, showing off for him. He seemed to say, "Ha Ha.....I don't have any problem hanging on. Watch me!" The juncos underneath were busy cleaning up the ground. I love those little birds....they are tidy, just like me :)

Gotta go....have a great day,
Balisha

  1. Chronic just means we've had it a long time and will continue to have it. Acute, is the bad word to hear! Love your little Pilgrim people--they look so happy!

    1. I realize what chronic means. I meant that I didn't know I had kidney disease. I had a tumor on my kidney and it was removed and thus far have had no problems with the working one. I try to take care of the remaining one....by drinking lots of fluids. No problems so far.

  2. Very cute couple! I once did cross stitch projects and sold them at craft shows. I like to keep a tidy home, too. I feel my best when I have accomplished cleaning or organizational projects. We have a lot of blue jays in our yard, too!

    1. I guess a lot of people have done crafts. Now days....I don't think that crafts are as big as they once were. I think it's wonderful how new ideas are always coming. Counted cross stitch must have taken so long to do. I imagine that your eyes would get tired. I can't do that anymore.

  3. What a delightful Thanksgiving couple and post Balisha! I'm glad your times at the pool have really helped your arthritis. Glad your heath is good, even with one kidney.

Have a wonderful holiday season ~ FlowerLady

    1. Thanks....sometimes we are the only ones in the pool, but we keep on keeping on. It's doing both of us good.

  4. If I've missed posts, my loss. You are one of the best writers I know.

Amazing that you are NOW sharing this wonderful talent and productive (artistically and successfully) time.. You are very humble. This little couple is darling. My mom painted ceramic figures...she loved hobo's...not clowns. hobo's! :)

Swimming is a wonderful cure for so many things. I don't even like to shower in the morning before going out, evenings only. You are a trooper! Have I mentioned I have only one kidney? Always afraid something might happen to the other. Praying for you always, let's keep hydrated together!

Your comment made me happy. Spoken like a true mom!

    1. Hi Jane....Do you carry water around too? (My test results come back...always dehydrated.) I drink water all the time. I don't drink coffee and very little tea. Always looking for something tasty to drink.
I love your blog...you are so honest and I can tell you speak from your heart. Gotta go and have some water LOL

  5. Good morning, I love your Thanksgiving couple. It must be wonderful to have a talent like that. I'm useless at drawing and painting, but I do enjoy my embroidery. I'm so pleased your medical went as well as it did. My MS has been really bad for the last three weeks. It was my birthday last Friday (69) and my DH had arranged a lovely lunch party at our local pub so I put on my 'warpaint' and was determined to enjoy myself. (A few glasses of wine helped) and my friends were all so kind. I haven't been out of the house since, but it was worth the effort just to see my DH so happy. Blessings

  6. Happy birthday, Leslie. Hope you enjoyed your special lunch. We swim with a woman suffering from MS. I see her struggle with it and yet she never complains. We never know what life is going to be like down the road. So, enjoy each day as it comes. Thanks for stopping by...Balisha

  7. Those pilgrims are cute!
So cold here this week. Enjoy all the warm places you can find. I'm trying to clean the kitchen currently as well. Actually pulling everything out of the cupboards and reorganizing some. I try to do a few each day and then give the room outside the cabinets a cleaning so we're ready for holiday baking and stuff too.
Happy birds at your place. I filled our feeders today. We have a snow storm headed our way. May have a white garden tomorrow. I like snow, but it could wait until after Thanksgiving!

  8. Glad to hear you had a good doctor's report. Those are worth their weight in gold, aren't they?
I love that you do a big clean before the holidays; that is so wise!
And, of course, you can come for Thanksgiving! :)
