Yesterday, found me working on my window project and in between letting the paint dry, I was working on my little critters. I got the critters done and my window project is ready for the next step. I'll show you later this week. We had a nice dinner...roast chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, asparagus, squash, and some Italian bread. We watched the Country Music Awards show until bedtime.
This morning was the day to go to the pool. It felt good to leave in the relatively warm weather. The pool was cold, however. Coming home, I decided to call Elizabeth and see if she wanted company. She had called last week and invited me sometime this week. I drove over to her house and was greeted by two little Westies at the door. They are so cute and love when anyone visits. She always tells them that I am coming and they get so excited. We sat by the fireplace, and she turned on the fire. The dogs settled down and she pointed to the counter...told me to go and get my birthday present. It was wrapped in a cellophane bag with crinkle ribbon. A small, very pretty, little cruet with rum inside. If you remember, I told you that she puts a little rum in her tea. I tried it the last time at lunch and she remembered that I liked it. So, the rum for my tea and the antique cruet was my birthday gift. I got such a kick out of this present. Now, when I have tea....I will remember her. I wondered about driving home with open liquor in the car....but took the chance.
As I was driving into town, I noticed something new. On the corner, by the drug store, a framework for a building of sorts was being built. It looked like a place for plants...maybe a garden center. I asked in the store, and was told that I was right. We will have a new garden center right on the corner as I drive into town. Oh, I will need some help going past this place. How convenient...maybe too convenient. I will tell you more as it gets built.
Now, I am going to finish up downstairs and then take a rest. So looking forward to the rest of the week. Warmer weather means I will be outside. I sat on the porch yesterday and it felt so good.
Have a nice afternoon
Balisha
Glad you got to spend time with a friend, but sorry about your car and the garage door! I always open the door first, then get in my car and start it up. I just have to be careful backing out so that the side of my car doesn't scrape anything. Your chicken dinner sounded delicious. Isn't it nice to be able to sit outside once again?
ReplyDeleteHi Melanie...As you can see, I deleted the paragraph about the car.
ReplyDeleteElizabeth is a good friend...and we have such a good visit. Next time I'm taking McDonald's hamburgers. She doesn't get to places like that and she said that she would love it.
I love sitting on my porch and this week, I'll be tidying it up for summer.

I worry when the phone rings late at night. We only have cell phones now and I sleep with it under my pillow.
ReplyDeleteYour friend Elizabeth is such a dear, I think the gift was lovely...it really is the little things.
We did have a great weekend weather-wise, even today is mild if not a little gloomy. I would be in and out of that garden center all the time!! I have really been thinking of and planning for my garden. I'm bursting with ideas! :)
XO,
Jane
Glad to hear that someone else is bursting with ideas. That garden center is much too close, but will be convenient when I need a bag of potting soil and not have to travel all the way to Rockford to get it.
DeleteI guess you never get used to worrying about your kids. You can't imagine what went through my head when I heard that voice on the phone say his name. It took me minutes to realize that he was OK and it was just his alarm that went off. I guess I'm a little frightened since my oldest son died just last summer. I hold on to these two kids and worry about them even more.
I think maybe YOU need to turn your cell off at night too? Everyone I know turns off their cell at night and I always wonder--how would I get help if I needed it? I don't have a cell--just my home phone with extensions--one at my bedside. I live just across the street from a garden shop--a rather big one--name familiar here in Michigan. When I pull out of this park and onto the road, the garden shop is exactly 1 minute and 20 seconds away. So very tempting to stop everyday--just to see what is new.
ReplyDeleteWhen Joe's first wife died in her sleep...they tried to get hold of one son. He had his phone turned off. The police finally got him, but it was so traumatic for Joe.
DeleteLoved reading about your visit with your special friend.
ReplyDeleteI think I will try rum in my tea:)
Busy here with family arriving in a few days.
I pulled up the boards around my garden yesterday
and am going to just garden in pots with herbs and a few veggies.
This is going to be new - but something I can delete from my busy schedule
of just maintaining flower garden and yard...
Will make a trip to local Farmers Market
for veggies I have planted in the past.
I hope that you really enjoy your family visiting. Don't do too much in preparation....they are coming to enjoy you!
DeleteElizabeth just puts a little rum in her tea...it does give it a nice flavor. She also told me about a delicious cake that she bakes. It's many layers with cream filling and rum sprinkled on top of the layers. Frosted and decorated with fresh berries.
So glad that you are making plans to garden in containers. I tried this last year and it worked so well. I didn't have to pull that hose around and things looked pretty and the herbs were happy.
Enjoy the visit with your family....Balisha
Well I had to laugh imagining a blog post titled " I was arrested today " : )
ReplyDeleteI had those thoughts in my head as I pulled out of her drive and turned the corner to my house. Surely they wouldn't arrest a little old lady with a cruet of rum...for medicinal purposes...would they :)
