Well, the fire department just left and here I am up early again. Did I get your attention? Our smoke detectors went off early this morning. We just had them all replaced a short time ago....less than 9 months... Now...the new ones sound an alarm and a woman's voice says, "Fire, Fire." Scared me to death and I jumped out of bed to investigate. Joe was sleeping peacefully right next to me. He would burn to a crisp, if it wasn't for me. He asked, "Balisha, are you sure you didn't dream this?" I wasn't smiling. I said no, just as the bleeping thing went off again. The sound is out of his hearing range, so he could sleep through anything. Lucky Man! No smoke was in the house.... We thought that we should have it checked out, because it might have been something in the attic. Joe looked for the non emergency # and couldn't find one. He called the non e. # in the next little town. The operator said that she would place a call for them to come out and check. Well, a little while later we had the firemen here in full uniform. Two trucks, a police car, and a hook and ladder. They searched and couldn't find anything. One of them climbed up and changed the batteries in all three and told us to call an electrician if they went off again. They haven't gone off since the firemen left. The batteries were put in just a few months ago....when an electrician put up new alarms...so they shouldn't have needed to be replaced. Joe tested them in his battery tester and they were all OK. So the alarm was a false alarm. We apologized for making them come out. As they left one fireman turned to us and said, "No problem....these guys love to hop on the truck and come out like this."

At times, firemen are just little boys--especially the fire department from a small town. Glad nothing was wrong. It would drive me nuts for a few days, wondering when it was going to go off again, or what caused it in the first place!
ReplyDeleteAll little boys want to be fireman at sometime in their lives. I have a grandson who is going to college and takes fire fighting courses along with college classes.
DeleteWe changed the batteries, which tested OK, and that's about all we could do. We did find out that the one in the hallway near the bedrooms is a detector that says "fire, fire" and the other three don't. We thought that they were all the same when the electrician installed them .
I am so glad there was no fire there. What a freak out though.
ReplyDeleteHope the rest of your weekend is uneventful.

We were a little disappointed in how long it took the dept. to get here. Our house would have burned down.
DeleteI am so glad everything turned out to be alright. Papa was a fire chief and he instilled the rules of prevention and safety in us. I live in a really nice middle class neighborhood where the majority of people are blue collar...lots and lots of police and fire fighters. When a boy or girl turns 18, they can go on a waiting list of thousands for an opening in Chicago.
ReplyDeleteI hope you are having a great day...our weather is cooperating!
XO,
Jane
How scary! Glad nothing was burning!
ReplyDeleteWow, that's enough to get your attention on an early morning! And so glad the house *wasn't* burning down!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for commenting on little Lucy this morning. :-))
That was exciting! Don't feel bad calling. Better to get help than wait until it's a big problem. Hope you don't have anymore trouble though.

ReplyDeleteSo glad that it was a false alarm. But it must have been scary to awaken to that.
